Rider Safety Tips
Follow these tips to stay safe on every Retwik ride:
Verify Your Driver
Before getting in, always check the driver's photo, name, vehicle description, and license plate in the app. Ask "Who are you here for?" to confirm they have your name. Never get into a vehicle that doesn't match the app details.
Share Your Trip
Use the "Share My Trip" feature to send real-time trip details to a trusted friend or family member. They can track your route, see driver info, and know your ETA — all through a simple web link.
Always Wear Your Seatbelt
Click your seatbelt at the start of every ride, no matter how short. Seatbelts save lives and are required by law in most jurisdictions.
Sit in the Back Seat
For your safety and the driver's comfort, sit in the back seat when riding alone. This provides personal space and easier exit options.
Trust Your Instincts
If something doesn't feel right, trust your gut. You can end the trip at any time, ask the driver to pull over in a safe location, or use the emergency button if you feel unsafe.
Keep Your Belongings
Before exiting the vehicle, check for your phone, wallet, keys, and other belongings. Lost items can be recovered through the app's "Lost Item" feature, but prevention is easier.
Emergency: If you are in immediate danger, call 911 first, then use the in-app emergency button. The in-app button connects you to emergency services and shares your location, but calling 911 directly is always the fastest way to get help.
Driver Safety Standards
We hold our drivers to high safety standards to protect every passenger:
Background Checks
Every driver must pass a comprehensive background check including:
- Criminal history: Multi-state and national criminal database search
- Driving record: Motor vehicle report reviewing the past 3-7 years
- Sex offender registry: National sex offender public registry check
- Identity verification: SSN trace and identity validation
Vehicle Requirements
All vehicles on the Retwik platform must meet strict standards:
- Model year 2015 or newer
- 4 doors with functioning seatbelts for all passengers
- No salvage, rebuilt, or flood titles
- Pass annual vehicle inspection (where applicable)
- Clean interior and exterior
- Working air conditioning and heating
- No commercial branding or taxi markings
Driving Standards
Drivers must maintain:
- Minimum 4.6 out of 5.0 average rating
- Less than 5% cancellation rate
- Compliance with all traffic laws
- No driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- No use of handheld devices while driving
Continuous Monitoring: Driver records are continuously monitored. New criminal offenses or driving violations that appear after onboarding may result in immediate account suspension pending review.

Reporting Safety Concerns
We take every safety report seriously. Here's how to report:
During a Trip
- Use the in-app emergency button for immediate danger
- Tap "Report Issue" in the trip menu for non-emergency concerns
- Ask the driver to pull over at a safe location if you want to exit
- Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies
After a Trip
- Go to your trip history in the app
- Select the trip and tap "Get Trip Help"
- Choose the safety concern category
- Provide details and submit
- Our safety team will review within 24 hours
What Happens After a Report
- Acknowledgment: You'll receive confirmation that your report was received
- Investigation: Our safety team reviews trip data, GPS records, and both parties' accounts
- Action: Appropriate action is taken based on findings, which may include driver suspension or deactivation
- Follow-up: You'll be notified of the outcome when the investigation is complete
Confidential: All safety reports are treated confidentially. The driver will not be informed of who made the report. We encourage reporting any concerning behavior to help keep our community safe.
